What is HTML5?

HTML5 is the new standard for HTML that is still under development. However, modern major browsers (like Firefox and Chrome) already support much of the new functionality. HTML5 is also an umbrella term for the new HTML functionality as well as the new functionality that's present in the CSS3 revision and some new Javascript functionality.

Major new features of HTML5 include:

  • Video and Audio (without the need for plugins, like Flash)
  • 2D/3D Graphics
  • Local Storage
  • Local SQL Database
  • Web Applications
